    A Holden man was sentenced Tuesday at the Piscataquis County Judicial Center to 10 years in prison in connection with sexual assaults on two girls, then ages 9 and 11, while visiting family friends two years ago in Milo, according to the district attorney's office. In addition to prison time, Benjamin D. Steeves, 30, was sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release, a stringent form of probation imposed only on sex offenders.

Gov. Paul LePage said in his weekly radio address Monday that he would like to change the citizen-initiated referendum process so that signature gatherers would be forced to collect a proportional amount of signatures from each county.

    Despite two days of searching by ground and by air, the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office, the Maine Warden Service and area volunteers on Sunday had not yet located a 71-year-old local woman who has been missing since Wednesday. Diana L. Estey of Medford has not been seen since Monday, Oct. 31. However, investigators believe she most likely has been missing from her Medford Center Road residence since sometime on Wednesday.
