    Three south Alabama women have been arrested and charged with first-degree theft in what Pike County District Attorney Tom Anderson is calling "the largest theft case believed to have ever been reported..." in the county. Investigators say Marjorie Beasley, of Troy, as well as Honoraville residents Karron White and Jeanette Holliday, used a scheme to steal more than $1.8 million over the last four years from Whaley Construction Company, based in Troy.

    A Pike County man was killed Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 231, three miles south of Troy, according to Alabama state troopers. Milton Leon Shipman, 78, of Banks was seriously injured when the 2004 Chevrolet Impala he was driving struck a 2002 International 4300 truck and then a 2002 Ford Ranger at around 11:30 a.m. The driver of the Ford, Melanie Lee Tomsha, 29, of Montgomery, was transported to an unspecified hospital for treatment of her injuries.
