    In a July 9 special County Commission meeting, County Commissioners approved a lease agreement between Otero County and Verizon Wireless to possibly install an additional cell tower at the road cross from the Otero County Prison Facility on 10 McGregor Range Road in Chaparral. County Emergency Services Director Paul Quairoli said the current cell towers which are located on Highway 54 near McGregor Range Rd. and Dona Ana County is overloaded and operating at their full capacity.

    With elections right around the corner, Otero County Clerk Denise Guerra has requested additional check-in-stations due to a high demand of voters in Otero County in a special County Commission meeting July 15. In the 2015 Legislative Session, Senate Bill 643 was passed and signed into law. Senate Bill 643 combines five election-related bills into one which entails voter registration requirements that includes changing procedures for canceling voter registration, providing procedures and requirements for registration by electronic means and providing for verification of voter registration data.

    The New Mexico Department of Health Otero County Public Health Office will host a back to school immunization clinic at the Otero County Public Health Office, 1207 Eighth St. It will be open July 30, 31 and Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed for lunch 12-1 p.m. The immunization clinic is open to the public and immunizations will be administered at no cost. Parents must bring a copy of their child's shot record and Medicaid or private health insurance card, if they have one.
