    Local residents held a drive Sunday to support law enforcement officers, collecting water, sports drinks, and snacks at both the Newberry County Sheriff's Office and Hawg Heaven. Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said they were grateful to Kay Suber-Dendy and Madison Cates, who spearheaded the drive, to everyone who donated and for the outpouring of love and respect from the Newberry County community.

    The S.C. Department of Transporation is hoping repair work on an I-26 bridge in Newberry County will be completed today following five days of work to repair cracking found during a routine inspection by SCDOT bridge engineers. The SCDOT began emergency bridge repairs July 31. The right lane of I-26 eastbound is closed for approximately 2.5 miles beginning at mile marker 81. Because only one eastbound lane has been open, traffic has been congested at times.

    The Newberry County Family YMCA pool reopened today at 6 a.m. with the Morning Master Swim group after being closed for more than a month for repairs. The pool closed June 29 to replace the filtration system and the chlorinators after three pool specialists agreed that the mechanical systems needed to be replaced.

    The body of a woman found in Lake Murray early Sunday morning has been identified as 73-year-old Judith Horton Walling of Songbird Lane in Prosperity, the Newberry County Sheriff's Department said this morning. The Newberry County Sheriff's Office had asked for the public's help to identify Walling, who was found by a resident in the water near his dock in Lake Murray near Macedonia Lutheran Church just after 7 a.m. Sunday.
