    Wearing all black, including a mask, the suspect entered the hotel at about 11:30 pm on October 21, armed with a knife. The suspect then demanded money from the hotel staff. The Midland police, with help from the Midland County Sheriff's Office and the K9 unit, were unable to locate the suspect.

Holmes, who was in attendance representing his father, Democratic candidate Dr. Jeff Holmes. Moolenaar, a state senator in the 36th District, which includes Midland and Gladwin counties, ran through some of his accomplishments in Lansing, including chairing the military affairs committee, reducing barriers to employment for veterans and sponsoring legislation allowing patients to visit physical therapy without first getting a physician's referral.

People are encouraged to bring personal care items and winter clothing, such as gloves, coats and hats, for people in need. Volunteers also are needed and can sign up at the United Way Volunteer website .
