    Hank Bruining, human resources manager of the Dollar General distribution center in South Boston, died suddenly Friday night at his home of an apparent heart attack. He was 63. Mecklenburg County's unemployment rate is at a six-year low, coming in at 7.7 percent for the month of October, according to data released by the Virginia Employment Commission on Tuesday.

    A high speed chase near South Hill on Thursday ended with the capture of a Connecticut man, Mark Pejtri, 32. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Ooffice reported that around 2 p.m. on Dec. 4, Investigator Rusty Callahan was heading eastbound on Highway 58 near Landfill Road when he was passed by Pejtri's vehicle traveling "at a high rate of speed." Callahan activated his warning lights and siren, but Pejtri refused to stop.
