    A St. Simons Island man who was struck Monday night while riding his bicycle near Darien died a day later, the Georgia State Patrol said. Wesley Albert Kirk, 68, was riding an electric-assisted bicycle south on Georgia 251 north of Interstate 95 about 9:20 p.m. Monday, the state patrol said.

    A federal judge has ruled that the McIntosh County sheriff and Board of Assessors and a state authority are immune from damages in a suit filed on behalf of 50 residents of Sapelo Island. In issuing her ruling last week, Lisa Godbey Wood, chief judge of the Southern Circuit of Georgia, met a promise she made in May that she would rule on the immunity issue within 30 days.

    A federal judge ruled that key Georgia agencies are not immune from a lawsuit that claims one of the last Gullah-Geechee communities of slave descendants on the Southeast coast is being eroded by discrimination and neglect.
