    The study, brought to the board by Jenell Feller, executive director of Friends Against Abuse, and Ward Merrill, executive director of Backus Community Center, will include assistance provided by the Minnesota Housing Partnership and is needed to attract new development, improve existing housing stock and meet housing needs and demand in Koochiching County. As of Tuesday, $16,100 had been pledged by local stakeholders and the Minnesota Housing Partnership offered a $10,000 match, leaving $8,900 left to be raised to meet the group's goal of $35,000.

    The Koochiching County Sheriff's Office implemented the drug take-back program in spring 2015, when it established a collection container for old and no longer needed pharmaceutical and over-the-counter drugs at the Law Enforcement Center in International Falls, adjacent to the courthouse. Hedlund notes the collection container at the LEC is accessible 24/7 and is also under 24/7 video surveillance.
