    A fifth high school could be in the mix to receive synthetic field turf in 2016 in the wake of Thursday's televised live drawing, which determined the order Knox County Schools' 13 traditional high schools will receive athletic facility upgrades during the next three years. Project developer Mark Packer of WVLT, Channel 8, said Friday that Central could receive turf in the first year of the 36-month project, set to being April 1, 2016.

    Fulton, Farragut, Powell and Bearden high schools were selected on Thursday to receive synthetic turf athletics fields in 2016, part of the first phase of a blockbuster $10 million donation to Knox County Schools from the Haslam family and Pilot Flying J. Karns, Gibbs, Halls, Central and Carter will receive turf in 2017, and West, Austin-East, Hardin Valley and South-Doyle will get it in 2018. The news comes on the heels of Wednesday's gift from Pilot Flying J and the Haslams, which will provide a synthetic turf field and $100,000 in academic money to each of the 13 schools.
