The Midlands Gang Task Force grew out of long-standing efforts by the Richland County Sheriff's Department to crack down on the growth of gang activity, and those comments follow concerns from Kershaw County's top cop that gangs seem to have migrated into his jurisdiction.

    The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office may charge a 35-year-old Elgin man with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after allegedly taking control of his former roommate's vehicle while riding in it as a passenger a little after noon on Feb. 4, causing it to wreck. According to a KCSO incident report, deputies arriving at the scene on the 700 block of Watts Hill Road near Elgin and found a gold-colored car up against a tree.

The incident reportedly happened Jan. 31. According to a KCSO press release, the victim's mother reported that a man -- later identified as Williams -- came on to her son's school bus and assaulted him.
