    The Iron County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the Mercer man who died July 24 as the result of a crash involving the utility vehicle he was driving and a car. John Moorhouse, 90, was attempting to cross U.S. Highway 51 on a UTV near Old Pioneer Road when the incident occurred.

    Hurley - While no formal action was taken Tuesday, the Iron County Forestry and Parks Committee considered a request from the city of Montreal to have the county assume control of the city's Gile Park. Montreal City Councilor Leola Maslanka told the committee the council voted to make the request at its meeting last month as the city no longer had the resources to maintain the park.

    Iron County sheriff Tony Furyk confirmed Friday Tom Maulson of Lac du Flambeau was at the wheel of a vehicle involved in a crash July 24 on U.S. Highway 51. That crash resulted in the death of a 90-year-old Mercer man, who was driving a utility vehicle at the time. A press release from the sheriff's office said the man, who's name was still not released as of press time pending notification of relatives, was attempting to cross the highway near its junction with Old Pioneer Road in a UTV.

While the first design phase of the reconstruction project to return Saxon Harbor to an operable state following its destruction during rain and flooding during the July 11, 2016 storm consisted primarily of gathering information, Phase 2 covers the actual design portion of the project and the bidding of contracts for both the campground and marina.
