    Firefighters in Humboldt County and 19 other California counties facing a high risk of wildfire danger received a federal grant worth $2.5 million and an extra $2.7 million in matching contributions from state agencies and organizations to help fund wildfire reduction projects across the state, the California Fire Safe Council announced on Monday The wildfire reduction projects include efforts to improve fuel breaks, community chipper programs, and defensible space projects, according to the release. “California's continuing drought has posed a critical wildfire threat statewide,” said Stephen Gort, California Fire Safe Council executive director, in the release.
