Brandon John Shorts, 23, of White Plains, was sentenced in Howard County Circuit Court after pleading guilty in January to animal cruelty and malicious destruction of property charges for crushing the dog's skull, Howard County State's Attorney's Office spokesman Wayne Kirwan said.
