After the moment of silence, the meeting became quite loud as both County Council and County Administrator Rose Dobson-Elliott were passionately told by Hampton County Coroner Ernie Washington that he would not be told how to run his office nor would he place a Hampton County decal on the side of his new vehicle.

    Shaquille Johnson, a former Statesboro High School football player, died over the weekend after being hit by a car in Hampton County. Police say Kamille Jenkins was driving on South Carolina 363 when she hit at least six pedestrians, sending all of them to the hospital where Johnson was pronounced dead.

    Hampton County held a recount after the results of the June 14 District 122 and County Council races were contested; Democratic Primary Runoff for S.C. House of Representatives, District 122, will be held on Tuesday, June 28. Due to a state law requiring candidates to receive "50 percent plus one" of the total votes to win, and the surprising post-election resignation of candidate Curtis Brantley, a runoff will be held on June 28 in Hampton County for the position of S.C. House of Representatives District 122. According to Debra Bryant, director of the Hampton County Board of Voter Registrations and Elections, District 122 incumbent Bill Bowers will now face Hampton County Council Chair Shedron Williams in a runoff for the position.

A county official later commented that a chairman addressing council during public comments is anything but a regular occurrence at a county meeting.
