    The Associated Press, citing a report from the Iron Mountain Daily News , says Kay and Joe Arcand of Quinnesec recently pulled the volleyball-like, puffball mushroom from a remote location in Dickinson County. While less celebrated than morel mushrooms that pop up in the spring, puffball mushrooms are one of many varieties ripe for the picking during the fall.

    When Dickinson County Supervisors met earlier this month, Supervisor Paul Johnson questioned whether the material was adequately tested before it was deposited in the landfill. BNSF representatives today said none of the soil tested by Test America was found to be hazardous, and that it is appropriate to dump it in the Dickinson landfill.

    A long-awaited meeting involving the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors and representatives of various other entities to discuss the disposal of oil-contaminated material at the Dickinson County Landfill is scheduled for August 27. The material was trucked to the landfill east of Arnolds Park over the past month-and-a-half or so from the site of a BNSF train derailment June 22 of this year near Doon, Iowa. The agenda for Monday's meeting lists a presentation from DNR officials including a background and timeline, regulatory requirements for Iowa landfills and testing requirements.
