Nicholls said the idea to have a Day of Unity event, which began to take shape about two weeks ago, was "generated from all the shootings and violence and hate that's been brewing around the rest of the country." While he said the Yuma community doesn't really have those issues, he believes the event will "strengthen the cohesiveness of our community."
