A huge team effort by the Champaign County Sheriff's Office and attorneys who later got involved resulted in the safe return of Karma Boitnott to her mother, Kayla Reifsteck, 24. Her father, Thomas Boitnott, 23, was charged Friday with attempted first-degree murder alleging he abandoned the child in a field, exposing her to the elements with no shelter or food; child abduction, alleging he removed her from her mother; and possession of a stolen vehicle for taking the child in her mother's car without the mother's permission.
