    Tragedy struck a family Saturday when two sisters, ages 11-years-old and 13-years-old drowned in the locust Fork River in Blount County. The girls were swimming in the area of Deans Ferry with their father and another adult, who unsuccessfully tried to save them, when they drowned.

    It happened about a mile and a half up from where I am now on Deans Ferry and Elvester Road in the Locust Fork of the Warrior River. Blount County Sheriff Officers say the two girls were out swimming with their father when a current took them under.

    State troopers said the 3-year-old boy was crossing Elvester Road two miles south of Hayden when he was hit by a 1991 Dodge Dakota pickup. It happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5. Blount County Coroner John Mark Vaughn said the child was airlifted to Children's of Alabama where he later died.

    Authorities have released the identity of a man who they say shot three people and into several homes and cars before leading deputies on a chase in Blount County on Tuesday. Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington said Blackmon fired shots at drivers at the U.S. 278 and Highway 79 intersection in Brooksville around 7 a.m. Blackmon is suspected of shooting at an employee in a Kirkpatrick Concrete truck at a job site near Red Hill Baptist Road in Marshall County around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
