For the 2017-18 school year, the court and school systems have "clarified existing policies" and "strengthened efforts to enforce those policies," Juvenile Court Judge Neal Brunt said, noting the revised attendance procedures should appear in all student handbooks for the upcoming year.

    Bartow County Fire Department and Department of Natural Resources personnel search the Etowah River by boat and helicopter Tuesday for a 17-year-old from Dallas, Georgia, who drowned while swimming with friends. Bartow EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran said the 17-year-old was swimming on a stretch of the river along Old River Road between U.S. Highway 41 and Georgia Highway 293 when "he began to struggle [and] then went under the surface of the water."
