    A traffic stop on a car without a license plate Saturday morning resulted in multiple drugs found in the vehicle and upwards of $1,000 found on one of the occupants. Eric Eugene House and Leann Janice Thomas, both of Cartersville, were spotted at approximately 8:30 a.m. in a blue 2001 Nissan Frontier traveling on Cassville Road with Thomas driving the vehicle.

    A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 northbound Tuesday resulted in a car bursting into flames, according to Bartow County EMSa SPublic Information Officer Brad Cothran. The wreck backed up traffic along the interstate at the Emerson exit after it occurred around 4:30 p.m. The wreck was caused when a passenger car ran into the rear of a tractor trailer, causing the car to burst into flames.

    A 25-year-old Cartersville woman, Olivia Ann Hayes, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after attempting to escape when Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies tried to arrest her for shoplifting. The subsequent pursuit resulted in Hayes causing damage to multiple vehicles and injuring an officer in the Ingles parking lot on Highway 41. According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, two deputies responded to the Ingles supermarket on Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville at about 1:23 p.m. to a reported shoplifting in progress.

    The student-run Six Mile Post recently brought home 17 awards, including first place in General Excellence, from the annual Georgia College Press Association awards luncheon at Mercer University in Macon and four awards, including first place for Online Newspaper, from the annual Southern Regional Press Institute at Savannah State University. The newspaper, headed by Editor-in-Chief Kayla Jameson, has competed head-to-head against larger four-year colleges in the state since moving from the two-year division to the four-year division in 2015, but the staff isn't at all intimidated.
