    Winder Mayor David Maynard has the city council's approval to spend up to a little over $480,000 on storm water improvements on Alexander Street. The mayor has been authorized as of Tuesday night to execute all applicable contracts for the project with 57 Construction, Inc. The initial project is estimated to cost $402,000, and the council approved an $80,000 contingency.

    A special taxing district on the city's north side that would encompass the Historic Stockyards as well as commercial corridors leading to it could generate at least $25 million in revenue for public improvements over the next two decades, city officials said Thursday. The tax increment finance district, or TIF, proposed for the Stockyards will be modeled after the city's 11 other TIF districts, Jay Chapa, director of the city's housing and economic development department, told a group of Stockyards area stakeholders Thursday.

    News10NBC has learned all court proceedings in the Hall of Justice on Exchange Boulevard in Rochester will be suspended on Wednesday, September 10. Judge Craig Doran, Administrative Judge for the 7th Judicial District said, "Out of respect for those that wish to attend the funeral of Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson, and in consideration of the impact that this will have on courthouse operations, I am directing that all court proceedings at the Hall of Justice be suspended on Wednesday, September 10 from the opening of business until 2 p.m." Officer Daryl Pierson was shot and killed last Wednesday night. Funeral services will be held at the Blue Cross Arena at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
