    Five utilities in Washington state will receive a combined $12.6 million in grants from the state's Clean Energy Fund. The grants, which were announced by Gov. Jay Inslee on Aug. 17, will fund projects proposed by three public power utilities: Seattle City Light, the Snohomish County Public Utility District and Energy Northwest; and two investor-owned utilities, Avista and Orcas Power and Light.

The nuclear power plant near Richland, operated by Energy Northwest, generated 9.6 million megawatt hours of electricity, just short of the 9.7 million megawatt hours generated two years ago.

    Millions of dollars were wasted at Energy Northwest on educating workers who did not pass a 2015 exam that followed their training, alleges a new anonymous letter sent as an investigation into other allegations is wrapping up. Energy Northwest, which operates the Northwest's only commercial nuclear plant, said it was disappointed in the success rate of that year's license class to prepare senior reactor operators, but pointed out that employees who took the class are providing value at the plant.
