    Consumers Energy is warning customers of a scam in which a caller tells customers they must immediately pay their electric bills using a prepaid credit card or face being disconnected. Consumers Energy spokesman Terry DeDoes said they have received reports of two customers in Missaukee County and one customer in Wexford County being targeted by this scam, although DeDoes said they did not necessarily fall victim to it.

They say that "imposters are ramping up efforts in Michigan and elsewhere" in targeting small commercial customers, after 241 reports of scams came to the Jackson-based utility during the first two months of this year, 10 of which were victimized to the tune of nearly 13 thousand dollars.
