    Jun 7, 2016 | Public Power

Maryland Public Service Commission staff is urging the PSC to reject for now a Baltimore Gas & Electric proposal to build and own two microgrids, saying it is not convinced at this point that a utility-owned microgrid is legal and that the topic of microgrids in general deserves closer scrutiny. "At this point staff is not persuaded by the comments filed so far that a utility-owned microgrid is legal, let alone that it is of sufficient public benefit to warrant ratepayer financing," PSC staff said in comments filed June 2. The comments were in response to a December proposal by BG&E to spend about $16.5 million on the microgrids ranging from 2 megawatts to 3 MW as part of a proposed pilot program that could be expanded state-wide.
