    Stephen Tulloch's status remains in limbo heading into the weekend , but the Detroit Lions did make a roster move on Friday, waiving injured wide receiver Corey Washington. Undrafted out of Newberry College in 2014, the 6-foot-4 receiver made a big impression during the preseason that year , earning a spot on the New York Giants' 53-man roster.

    Newberry College will serve as the host school for the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Super Regional tournament in May 2017 - the first time a predetermined NCAA event has been held in the state since 2002. The tournament will be a 54-hole event played May 8-10, 2017, at the Member's Club's Woodcreek course on the outskirts of Columbia.

    The Newberry American Legion Junior Team won two of its first three games this season, beating Lexington 19-0 at the Newberry College Field, losing to Aiken 3-4 in Aiken and beating Lexington again 17-1 in Lexington. In the first Lexington game, Chase Murray and John Steven Trammell scored 3 runs each and Chase McCarley scored 2 runs.

    Newberry College is set to host the first NCAA postseason event held at a predetermined site in the state of South Carolina since the removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds of the State House in July 2015.
