Lake County authorities have identified the man killed in Wednesday's police-involved shooting in Zion as 38-year-old Charles J. Hollstein. Hollstein, of the 2900 block of Willow Lane, was wearing a homemade tactical-style vest and carrying an Airsoft BB gun when he was fatally shot after leading police on a chase that ended in a struggle in an alley, according to Zion police and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. A Zion man who allegedly entered Woodland School in Gages Lake last Monday and stole a teacher's credit cards has been charged with burglary, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Lavonte M. Murel, 20, of the 1900 block of Jethro Avenue, was arrested Saturday without incident at his residence, according to a sheriff's office release. Comment?
A Waukegan 17-year-old is being held on $1 million bond on charges that he shot a North Chicago woman at 2 a.m. Saturday in Zion. Officers were responding to a call about a loud party in the 1900 block of Joanna Avenue around 2 a.m. when dispatchers received a second 911 call about shots fired just a few blocks away at 21st Street and Joanna Avenue, according to a statement from Zion police. 1 comment

A Lindenhurst teen facing weapons charges related to the police-involved fatal shooting of Waukegan 17-year-old Justus Howell was remanded to Lake County Jail without bond Wednesday after allegedly violating conditions of his release. Tramond Peet, who is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, allegedly told police he tried to sell a semi-automatic pistol to Howell on April 4 before a Zion police officer responded and shot Howell while he was running with that gun, according to authorities.
