The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning and flash flood watch for today, Thursday, Dec. 15 through Friday, December 16 for the Yosemite region. Flooding will occur on the Merced River in Yosemite Valley. Comment?
Tioga Pass Road/S.R. 120 West and Sonora Pass Road/S.R. 108 are now both open to through traffic, as of noon on Wednesday, May 18. According to Caltrans and the National Park Service, although both roads could still close temporarily if snow or other weather events make them unsafe, the roads are now open for the summer and fall season. In the case of the higher elevations of Tioga Pass road, which accesses Yosemite Valley and Yosemite National Park from the east side of the Sierra, most campgrounds and park facilities are still closed, however. According to Caltrans, the anticipated opening of California State Route 120 West to the east Yosemite National Park entrance gate is scheduled for Friday, April 29 at noon. The road past the gate into the park heading west will not open on that date, however, and Yosemite Valley and much of the park is still only accessible by vehicle from the west entrances. Comment?
