The budget pinch struck clerks offices this year after the court fees and fines that fund them generated less revenue than expected, creating a roughly $22.4 million shortfall statewide.

    Florida lawmakers will not set aside money to add more judges across the state, despite the state Supreme Court suggesting a need for 35 new judges including two in the judicial circuit that includes Lake County. House Justice Appropriations Chairman Larry Metz, R-Yalaha, said the additional judgeships were not a top priority of the court system and that the Legislature focused on funding higher-priority issues.
