    The Yakima County sheriff's office says a man shot to death by a deputy was driving a stolen car and had tried to speed away from a theft. A chase that reached more than 100 mph Wednesday afternoon on Highway 12 ended just west of Yakima when the car went out of control and hit a fence.

    The Yakima County sheriff's office says a deputy has fatally shot a man after a high-speed chase that ended just west of the Yakima city limits. Chief Criminal Deputy John Durand says the deputy was trying to pull over a reportedly stolen vehicle when it sped off at speeds of more than 110 mph on U.S. Highway 12. Durand says when the driver turned off the highway, the vehicle crashed into a ditch and shots were fired from the car as the deputy approached it.
