    Part agility course and part natural elements, the newly installed phase one of the canine nature playscape at Greene County Parks & Trails' Scout Dog Park in Xenia has been installed within the newest paddock located at Pierce Park in Xenia. The three simulated tree stumps, two simulated logs and one simulated hollow log are the part of the first phase of the project and were funded by proceeds from GCP&T's canine special events.

    A Greene County Grand Jury has indicted Dustin Merrick and Bret Merrick for various charges stemming from the Jan. 15 homicides of William "Skip" Brown and Sherri Mendenhall of Yellow Springs. Dustin Merrick, 26, of Xenia, was charged with nine counts: two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, two counts of aggravated burglary, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and obstructing justice.

    Current city ordinances prohibit the sales and consumption of alcohol on all city property, which includes parks, rights of way and city facilities. After receiving requests from the organizers of the Xenia Community Festival and the Tour de Xenia bike race to allow alcohol at those events, city staff drafted a proposed policy that would allow the sales and consumption of alcohol - limited to beer and wine - at those two events.

Smith, 63, was also charged with aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony, and two counts of driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs, first-degree misdemeanors. Attorney Peter Certo entered Smith's plea as she was arraigned in Judge Stephen Wolaver's courtroom under the direction of Magistrate Raymond Dundes.

    A Xenia woman is in the Greene County Jail after a domestic-related altercation in the 400 block of Bellbrook Avenue March 12. According to Xenia police, Janna Anderson, 36, was charged with one count of felonious assault after allegedly stabbing her roomate, Willie Brown, shortly before midnight. Police said they had to use force to enter the apartment and took Anderson into custody without incident.
