    Butter clams from Shoemaker Beach in Wrangell are unsafe for harvesting due to elevated levels of saxitoxins, according to recent testing by Southeast Alaska Tribal Ocean Research website Also, the Southeast Alaska Tribal Toxins partnership has recently detected elevated levels of the phytoplankton species that produces saxitoxins causing paralytic shellfish poisoning at Starrigavan in Sitka and Hydaburg Beach in Hydaburg. All species of molluscan shellfish at Hydaburg Beach are near or above the regulatory limit and are unsafe to harvest.
