    The Lubbock County Commissioners agreed to fund the county's portion of right-of-way acquisition for the Texas Department of Transportation's project to widen FM 179. The county is responsible for paying 10 percent of the right-of-way costs, and at a meeting Monday morning the county commissioners unanimously agreed to pay the estimated cost with funds Commissioner Bill McCay said had been previously earmarked for the project.

    Right-of-way acquisition for the first segment of the proposed Loop 88 could begin as soon as the end of summer. The city of Lubbock is responsible for paying 10 percent of the right-of-way costs inside city limits, and on Thursday the City Council unanimously agreed to apply for a state loan for $7.25 million to cover Lubbock's portion for right-of-way and utility adjustments.

    A Wolfforth man died in an early-morning crash Friday in Amarillo, police said, after a vehicle ran a red light at Southwest 6th Avenue and South Adams Street, resulting in two being jailed on intoxication manslaughter charges. The Amarillo Police Department was called to the scene at 2:18 a.m. where investigators determined that a white Mitsubishi Mirage had been eastbound on 6th at Adams when a second vehicle, a black 2002 Dodge Dakota, northbound on S. Adams, had collided.
