    Ballard County Judge/Executive Vickie Viniard and former treasurer Belinda Foster are facing prison sentences after being indicted in federal court last week for their alleged role in a bank fraud scheme. During a press conference at the U.S. District Court office in Paducah on Nov. 16, Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear and FBI Special Agent in Charge Amy S. Hess joined United States Attorney John E. Kuhn Jr. as he announced charges against Viniard and Foster for allegedly secretly procuring operating funds for Ballard County by obtaining bank loans illegally.

    Representatives from the agricultural and river industries joined with politicians and business leaders on Monday and Tuesday to look at economic development along the four river counties in West Kentucky. Governor Matt Bevin kicked off the first annual Confluence event at Columbus-Belmont State Park in Hickman County that had the newly-formed Western Kentucky Alliance for a Vibrant Economy presenting ideas for using the region's resources to bring industry to an area that has seen unemployment rise to 9.1% following the closure of Verso Inc., which served as Ballard County's biggest employer.

Starting at the Ballard County Preschool/HeadStart, riders signed up to traverse the 15 mile, 30 mile, and 60 mile courses that make up Wheels and Wings.

    Charges of official misconduct in the second degree against the former Ballard County Jailer and Deputy Jailer were dismissed March 11 in Ballard District Court. Charges against former Ballard Jailer Mike Horn, 70, of Wickliffe, and assistant Monica Galloway, 45, of Bardwell, were dismissed after it was discovered the indictments against the pair were misdemeanors that had been filed after the statue of limitations for such charges had expired.
