    It was announced a little over two weeks ago that the County Mayor in conjunction with city mayors in the county have requested the change in trick-or-treating in the counties major areas to Tuesday, October 30th rather than the traditional - actual Halloween night of October 31st. County Mayor David Jackson and other officials say it was changed after a poll was conducted among the local city mayors and was taking into consideration that Wednesday is often known as a traditional "church night" in our area and they felt after talking to several church leaders it would be a good idea, too.

    Officials with the Whitwell Fire Department say five local firefighters were injured while battling at a house fire on East Kansas Avenue in Whitwell on Friday night. It happened around 8:30 PM Friday when they say the owner was at a building next door the house when the fire was reported.

According to Steve Daffron, curator of the Facebook Page "WHS Tiger Football History," a win over Sale Creek tonight will make the 2018 Tigers the only team in school history to go undefeated in the regular season, including the big win again inter-county rivals the South Pittsburg Pirates back on October 12th.

When deputies arrived at the scene in the 500 block of Lee Morrison Road, they learned that 45-year-old Douglas A. Floyd had barricaded himself with a 9mm handgun and a rope.

    A trial date has been set for the woman charged in connection with the murder of 72-year-old Jerry Ridge, owner of Valley Pawn Brokers in Whitwell almost two years after the incident. 51-year-old Angela Denise Kilgore of Whitwell was charged in 2016 on grand jury indictments with first-degree murder, felony murder, especially aggravated robbery, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony aggravated arson, theft and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

    Marion County Sheriff Ronnie "Bo" Burnett confirms that teacher Joseph "Joey" Smith was arrested following multiple statements given to the department alledging Smith was involved in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Smith was taken into custody on charges of statutory rape by an authority figure, which is a Class B felony in Tennessee, according to the District Attorney's office.

Pastor Brent Upchurch says that the alarm went off at the church before sunrise.
