    Whitney Independent School District and Whitney Police Department are investigating a terroristic threat that resulted in a large number of absences Wednesday, November 1. Whitney Superintendent Gene Solis said that around 60 percent of high school students stayed home from school Wednesday, and large numbers of absences were reported at other campuses. According to school officials, a threat was discovered on a wall in the boys' restroom at the high school Monday, October 30. The message suggested that there would be a shooting on the campus Wednesday.

    The Hillsboro Police Department made three arrests and executed several warrants at 11:48 a.m. Tuesday, October 17. According to reports, authorities made contact with a 24-year-old Hillsboro woman, a 21-year-old Hillsboro woman and a 21-year-old Whitney man at a business in the 200 block of the west service road of Interstate 35. A computer check on the 21-year-old woman, identified as Emily Rose, revealed that she was wanted on a felony charge on a motion to adjudicate guilt on a forgery of a financial instrument charge, speeding, failure to maintain financial responsibility and failure to appear on a speeding charge.

    The Hill County Sheriff's Office arrested four Hill County men and one juvenile on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity over the weekend. The arrests were made following an investigation into a string of vehicle burglaries in the Whitney area and along Farm Road 2604 that occurred in the overnight hours of Tuesday, October 10. Sergeant Jeff Winningham said that thefts were reported from more than 10 vehicles, and it appeared that the suspects were checking for unlocked doors and taking items from vehicles.
