At its regular monthly meeting, aldermen awarded an entrepreneurship grant of $18,275 to Rebecca Stimac and Pamela Castaneda of Bevy LLC, a shop at 517/519 Fifth Ave. The building, which they purchased earlier this year, formerly housed Zane Guitars.

    Troutland Rescue, which has served eastern Langlade County for decades, is likely having its last call as an ambulance provider. The volunteer squad, based in the village of White Lake and also serving the towns of Evergreen and Wolf River, is ending its ambulance service effective today, moving toward a first responder base instead.

    City of Antigo officials are in the midst of a series of meetings, carving out a role for the Antigo Fire Department ambulance in serving eastern Langlade County. The Common Council's Finance, Personnel and Legislative Committee will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall for an update regarding a request from Troutland Rescue Squad to supply ambulance services for the towns of Evergreen and Wolf River and the village of White Lake.

    Antigo's Fourth of July party was sparked by a traditional parade that drew a big mid-week crowd. Led by a veterans' color guard, the parade ran on Edison Street south to 10th Avenue and then west to the high school parking lots, where the fireworks were launched just after dusk.

Tiuffany, whose 12th Senate District includes Langlade County and a large swath of northeastern Wisconsin, reviewed the session on a recent morning, and then headed north to Elcho for more positive news, a tour of the ongoing $18 million school construction and renovation project.

    Charges continue to mount against an Oconto County man whose behavior prompted the closure of the Boulder Lake Campground in eastern Langlade County. Karl Klimes, Highway T, White Lake, is facing criminal charges in three counties-Langlade, Oconto and Dane-in connection with a series of behaviors that led to the closure of the popular national forest campground, which adjoins his property.
