Olsen, who represented Jamaica, Londonderry, Stratton, Weston and Winhall in the state House of Representatives, is Scott's third appointment to the public school board - and another white man.

    The Taconic and Green Regional Education District has finalized its first budget, which came in 5.3 percent higher than the combined budgets of the districts this year. The district, made up of Danby, Dorset, Landgrove, Londonderry, Manchester, Mount Tabor, Peru, Sunderland and Weston, will begin operation on July 1. Prior to the merger, each town had its own budget and tax rate.

    Residents of Pawlet and Rupert voted to merge school districts in a Nov. 21 vote mandated by State Act 46, paving the way for the creation of the new Union School District #47, also known as the Mettawee School District. The vote supported the revised Merger Study Report and Articles of Agreement put forth by the towns' Merger Study Committee, which was approved by the State Board of Education on Oct 18. "I'm very happy that both communities voted in the same direction; I think that was very important," said Superintendent Jackie Wilson of the Bennington Rutland Supervisory Union .

    Burr and Burton Academy has announced it will be raising tuition costs for area school districts considered "sending districts" by 2.2 percent for the coming school year. The school announced on Monday that its board of trustees had voted during a meeting on Nov. 6 to increase tuition to $17,065 for the 2018-19 school year.
