Interim Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey told The Day Monday that Pierfederici had died at Rhode Island Hospital hours after the crash but a hospital spokeswoman said Monday night that he was in fair condition at the hospital.  Pierfederici told police that he was driving at about 35 miles per hour, just over the 25 miles per hour speed limit in the area, Lacey said.
