    A West Texas man has been sentenced to three years of probation for his role in a 2012 traffic collision that killed a state trooper. Edgardo Flores had been convicted last week of manslaughter for his role in a collision that killed trooper Javier Arana Jr. The El Paso Times reports that during closing arguments in the trial's punishment phase on Monday, Flores' defense attorney urged jurors to sentence Flores to probation, citing the 21-year-old Flores' academic success as a mechanical engineering student at the University of Texas at El Paso.
