    Although Knybel was among three finalists for an opening as principal of West Springfield Middle School, the school district announced on Wednesday that Peter Gillen, currently the assistant principal there, has been promoted to the post. Knybel, in his fourth year at school, declined immediate comment on the outcome, saying he had not been contacted by the West Springfield district as of Friday morning and had not been aware of the decision.
