    Gretchen Van Ness, who came in second to incumbent state Rep. Angelo Scaccia in a field of five in the Democratic primary for the 14th Suffolk state representative district told supporters today she will run again in 2020 but that for now, she will concentrate her free time on working to support Question 3, which would enshrine transgender people's right against discrimination in public places. In an e-mail message, she acknowledged several people have asked her to consider a write-in campaign against Scaccia, who won the Democratic nomination with less than 40% of the total vote: We've looked carefully at the numbers and I'm afraid there's no clear path to victory.

    The Board of Appeals today approved a Dorchester developer's plans for three triple deckers on a ledgy outcropping across from the Burger King in Washington - provided he can work out a driveway issue with a neighbor for the 28-space parking lot he wants to build. John Lydon wants to put his triple deckers - which would have nine total condos, each with three bedrooms - at 4623 Washington St., a site that has been vacant for decades and where neighbors beat an earlier proposal for a two-building complex some 17 years ago.

    Angelo Scaccia, who has served in the state House of Representatives since 1973 - except for two years - won re-election tonight in the 14th Suffolk district, which covers Hyde Park and parts of Roslindale and West Roxbury. Latest results from the Boston elections department show Scaccia with only about 39.5 percent.

    Sometime overnight, a city crew painted the town red - or at least the morning bus/bike lane from Roslindale Square to Forest Hills - as BNF shows us . The lane, in effect since June , requires people to move their cars before the morning rush hour so that commuters on all the buses that funnel down Washington Street from Roslindale, West Roxbury and Mattapan, along with bicyclists, can get a faster ride to the T stop.

    Progressive West Roxbury/Roslindale isn't endorsing any candidates in the 14th Suffolk state-rep race , because neither of the progressive candidates - Gretchen Van Ness and Segun Idowu - were able to get the required 60% of the vote at a recent endorsement meeting. We do, however, believe that either of them can win this race.

    Roxbury Preparatory Charter School yesterday filed a "letter with intent" with the BPDA that signals it will soon file detailed plans to replace auto sales and repair buildings on Belgrade Avenue and West Roxbury Parkway with a three-story school for 800 students. The proposed school, on a one-acre site, would replace temporary high-school quarters for which it has a three-year lease at the old Most Precious Blood School in Hyde Park.

    Progressives already split between two challengers in the 14th Suffolk state representative's district now have a third candidate running against incumbent Angelo Scaccia, who has been a state rep for 41 years now. At a forum sponsored by Progressive West Roxbury Roslindale at the Washington-Beech community room last night, about 35 people learned that, in addition to Segun Idowu and Gretchen Van Ness, who have been running since December, Virak Uy has jumped into the race.

    The FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force reports the East Boston Savings Bank branch at 1985 Centre St. in West Roxbury, where the Friendly's used to be, was held up shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday by a man who's gone easy on the Grecian Formula and who demanded money. The robbery came a couple days before the Santander Bank branch at 75 State St. downtown was held up by another man , described as being about 60. It took me WAY too long to realize this was 2 side-by-side photos..."Hmm, is it just me or are these bank robbers identical twins? Shouldn't take too long to find them."

    The Board of Appeals yesterday approved plans to replace two houses on Washington Street at Stimson Street with a nine-unit condo building with - get this - more parking than required by neighborhood zoning. Under the proposal by Edmund Carr, the building would have three stories - the first holding 19 parking spaces, compared to the roughly 12 that would be required by zoning - the second with nine two-bedroom units, between 1,050 and 1,300 square feet in size.

    Boston Police report officers on patrol early this morning collared a guy they say they'd spotted trying to break into Marino's Market & Deli, 1906 Centre St. Police say the officers were specifically looking for a suspect responsible for a spate of break-ins at convenience stores along Centre and Spring street over the past three weeks. This includes Marino's, which police records show was broken into on Jan. 23. Police say the officers spotted German Serrano, 37, of Roslindale, outside Marino's around 1:45 a.m., "facing the front door with a bag at his feet" and appearing "that he was using his body to shield his actions."
