    Lawyers for All Aboard Florida, the federal Department of Transportation and the Department of Justice have been granted an extension until Dec. 7 to file their response to a motion for summary judgment filed Oct. 21 by lawyers for Martin and Indian River counties. The counties, along with some individual residents there, are trying to block the second leg of the planned All Aboard Florida rapid train service between West Palm Beach and Orlando, saying environmental approvals were never secured and that USDOT's 2014 award of $1.75 billion in private activity bonds for the passenger train project was improper.

    Within six weeks, a lawsuit filed by Martin and Indian River counties along with some individual residents to block the leg of the future All Aboard Florida train service planned between West Palm Beach and Orlando will probably be before a judge. The plaintiffs on Friday filed for summary judgment against the US Department of Transportation , All Aboard Florida and the Department of Justice "in an effort to begin to finally complete this lawsuit," said Stephen Ryan, a partner with McDermott Will & Emery LLP, which represents Martin County.

    Construction on the first leg of the Brightline passenger rail service has crossed the halfway point, on track for its anticipated service launch in mid-2017. Construction of the West Palm Beach-to-Miami segment is more than 65% completed, and the first trainset is expected to arrive this fall and will begin testing in Palm Beach County, according to Brightline officials.

Miami was the seventh-largest exporter in the US with a total goods export value of $33.3 billion and accounted for 64% of total Florida goods exports.

    The locomotive moved for the first time, powered by its own diesel-electric engine, on a quarter-mile of track and passed tests in 45 areas including braking systems, software, fire detection systems, audible warning devices, communication systems and interior and exterior lighting. "This signifies another major milestone for the production of Brightline's trains, as the company has now approved production for all locomotives currently being built by Siemens," said a Brightline press release.
