    Mary Maxwell, 58, was driving a Nissan Altima north on U.S. 1 about 7:30 p.m. Saturday when the car crossed into the southbound lane about three miles north of the Charlton County line and struck a GMC Yukon head-on in the inside lane, the state patrol said. The Yukon was pushed backward 53 feet by the impact, and Davis, who was traveling alone, was pronounced dead at the scene, the state patrol said.

Javonte Jerome Wade, 20, was approaching a car in the 200 block of Knight Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a shot fired from the car struck him in the chest, Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner said in a release.
