    The Mississippi State Department of Health this week confirmed one reported case this summer of Vibrio vulnificus bacterial infection in Hancock County which apparently led to a Bay St. Louis man having his leg amputated. Meanwhile, the MSDH still hasn't confirmed Vibrio was the cause of a Baton Rouge man's infection and subsequent amputation last week, but the victim in that case is improving, hospital officials said.

    A Baton Rouge man is in critical condition at Hancock Medical Center after reportedly contracting a flesh-eating bacteria while on vacation in Waveland over the weekend. An HMC spokesman confirmed Thursday that Richard Empson, 69, is a patient there in critical condition, but due to health privacy laws, could not confirm the cause of Empson's illness.
