The Des Moines Register reports that the family of Officer Susan Farrell is suing the cities of Waukee and West Des Moines, as well as several contractors.

    Two cities and several contractors were negligent in constructing and opening an interchange despite "knowledge of the dangerous conditions," according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Polk Court District Court by the family of a fallen Des Moines officer who died in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80. Officer Susan Farrell died in a March 26, 2016, crash after a drunken driver was traveling the wrong way on I-80, west of Des Moines, at more than 100 mph when he collided with a police car, killing everyone involved.

Seven-year-old Jaxson Ridout, of Waukee, captured Iowans' hearts in the midst of a deadly and severe flu season when he was hospitalized late last month with severe symptoms brought on by Influenza A. "We thought we were losing him," Melody Ridout, Jaxson's mother, told KCCI in January.
