    More than 12 years after kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and shooting a man, a former Watertown city police officer was released from state prison Oct. 12. Michael K. VanWaldick, now 38, pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder, second-degree kidnapping and fourth-degree grand larceny on June 20, 2005. He was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison and served 12 years and two months in the Clinton Correctional Facility.
