    Shawntay R. Scott, 29, 135 N. Rutland St., was charged with aggravated unlicensed vehicle operation in the third degree at 11:15 a.m. on Monday. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department allege that Mr. Scott did not appear in Watertown City Court for the charge on January 7 and February 11, for traffic tickets for the charge on December 31, 2015.

    The Watertown YMCA Blue Sharks swimming team has four members who will be competing at the 2016 YMCA Short Course National Swimming Championships, which run Monday through Friday in Greensboro, N.C. Maclean Crossley, a Watertown High School junior, is entered in the boys 50- and 100-yard freestyles and as part of the Blue Sharks' 200 freestyle relay. Joining Crossley on the relay are Watertown junior Peter Victoria, Watertown sophomore Edward Gaus, and Immaculate Heart Central sophomore Connor Way.

    The lifting of New York's ban on professional mixed martial arts this past week was a delight to thousands of combat sports enthusiasts around the state, including amateur promoter John Gibbons from Carthage, who has spent the past four years contributing to that cause. And for the several pro fighters from the area and the dozens more who aspire to join them, the state Assembly's decision to pass the bill on Tuesday, which just needs a signature from Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was life-changing.

Members of the Task Force executed a search warrant on Room 4 of The Budget Inn, 19226 U.S. Route 11, in the town of Watertown, where they found 10.9 grams of bulk heroin, six individual packages of heroin, several hypodermic needles and other packaging items associated with the drug.

She was 82. After months of hospital and nursing home stays, Mrs. Jones died Saturday at her home under the care of family members and Hospice.

    Patrick A. Francis II, 20, of 336 W. Main St., was arrested by city police following a traffic stop Friday at 11:44 p.m. at 300 Brainard St. Mr. Francis was arrested on charges of ability impaired by drugs, a class-U misdemeanor, an unlicensed driver infraction, an equipment violation and an operating a vehicle without insurance violation. Mr. Francis was brought to the Public Safety building where he was processed and released with uniform traffic tickets answerable to the City of Watertown Court.
