    The students at Truesdell Elementary School in Northwest Washington were evacuated from the area Monday morning after a gas odor was identified in the school's boiler room. The District's Department of General Services and Pepco were notified and are on the scene at the school in Brightwood, according to Michelle Lerner, a spokeswoman for the school system.

    A 23-year-old man has been indicted in connection with a fatal vehicle crash in July that occurred during what police described as a street race that reached speeds of 100 mph in Northwest Washington. The person killed was not involved in the race, according to police, but his SUV was hit by one of the speeding vehicles about 3:20 a.m. on July 19. That same month, authorities charged Rasheed M. Murray, 28, and identified him as the driver of an Acura that struck the victim's vehicle.

Police arrested Javonte Odom of Decatur, Ga., on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant that charges him with the slaying of Antonio Ayala March 30 in the Brightwood area of the city.
