    For the first time in the Maine Blueberry Festival/Union Fair's long history, the roar of lawn mowers graced the grounds in the first annual Thunder Valley Lawn Mower Drag Races on Saturday, Aug. 25. The event on the dirt track brought about 25 people, and mowers, to compete in five classes: stock, hydro, small super stock, big super stock and outlaw. After the final mowers crossed the finish line, it was Dan Littlefield of Belfast who won the stock class; Cliff Pendleton of Lincolnville the hydro class; Joe Young of Warren the small super stock class; Brian Dyer of Lincolnville the big super stock class; and Eric Tolman of Warren the outlaw class.

    Despite the town's having approved a decreased municipal budget for 2018-2019, significant increases in the Knox County and Regional School Unit 40 budgets have forced Warren assessors to increase the town's mill rate. At the Board of Selectmen's meeting Aug. 15, Assessor Jim Murphy recommended an increase of $1.10 per thousand of taxable valuation -- from $17.20 last year.
