    The water from the recent heavy rains has mixed with the sewage water in the pipes, which send everything to the county for treatment, town manager Alex Sewell told the council during its meeting on Monday. Since the rainwater is treated with the waste, the town's bills from the county have skyrocketed since heavy rains began in November, according to Sewell.

    Normally the partisan primary elections are held in the month of May. This year, however, primaries will be held Tuesday, March 15. State lawmakers authorized the change to increase North Carolina's impact in determining the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees. In a primary, voters who are registered Democrat, Republican or Libertarian will vote to select nominees to be placed on the ballot for the general election, which will be held Nov. 8. Unaffiliated voters will have the option to choose which ballot they would like - Democratic, Republican, Libertarian or unaffiliated.

    Did you know that the current nursing home on Country Club Road in Wadesboro is the location of the building project from the early 1900s of the County Home, so the oldest building located to the right of the property was built in 1904? The Messenger-Intelligencer newspaper of Wadesboro chronicled the home's history in a front-page story on Thursday, Jan. 8, 1914: "The resignation of Mr. J.B. Henry who has made a very efficient keeper for the county home and has also improved the farm connected with the home is to be regretted. The salary of the keeper of the home is $125 per year along with the farmable land connected with the home.
